Within the framework of the national Konstnärliga forskarskolan, the Royal Institute of Art has three PhD candidates who aim for the artistic doctoral award. The Royal Institute of Art has also got two PhD candidates in Visual Art through a collaboration with Stockholm University of the Arts/Lund University.

The practice-based doctoral studies are independently undertaken during four years (240 ECTS-credits) and in dialogue with supervisors. The credits are organised across obligatory and elective elements and the main part is focused on the documented artistic research project.

The Royal Institute of Art also has a PhD-collaboration with the Department for Computer and Systems sciences at Stockholm University.

The Royal Institute of Art does not currently offer any PhD positions.
