Practices of the Essential In-Between

“Practices of the Essential In-Between” starts from the conviction that in a time of global individualisation and privatisation of space it is essential to build an understanding of the importance of common space – the space people can potentially share and create through their personal engagement.  The project relates to dissolution of welfare system, and anticipates post-neoliberal condition – mostly from European perspective. It explores the minimal spatial or conceptual devices to catalyse and guide shared formation of urban space. The focus is on an architectural/artistic practice as a way to exercise such an approach, building upon and elaborating from the practice STEALTH.unlimited by Ana Džokić and Marc Neelen.

Departing from knowledge and experience gained from activities undertaken in the on-going practice, the project engages in a number of speculative extrapolations that restage potentials of these activities. In other words: what could they possibly become, if set in or approached through altered conditions? Such a research expedition looks to further articulate three levels of “in-between”: the position of a practice as a mediator, the device as an instrument for an engagement and the common space as a result from this."
