”The Suspension of the Lion” (2011)

The analogue film and bookwork project started off from an encounter with a photographer and crane operator in Arnheim in the Netherlands in 2007. The crane operator has built up a personal and never shown archive of black and white self-printed still images depicting all the objects he has lifted with the 45 metre high crane. Some of the objects include architectural structural elements and rhinoceruses at the zoo.

A bolex camera will be put into the place of the suspended objects, and thus the mechanical apparatus is utilized to achieve a supernatural point of view. The crane operator’s photographs will be incorporated into the film, together with moving image footage shot from the crane and and the private darkroom. Together they will form an experimental montage sequence.
