“I am very happy to be able to propose that the Government appoints such an internationally established actor in the art world as our new Vice-Chancellor. Marta Kuzma has a genuine belief in art’s and architecture’s potential in today’s society, which she is also able to convey. She is a visionary leader with an ability to foster energy and commitment. Thus, she has all the qualities required to direct the work at Sweden’s largest art academy,” says the Chair of the Board, Berit Svedberg.

During its meeting on 19 February 2014, the Institute´s Board decided unanimously to propose that the Government appoints Marta Kuzma as the new Vice-Chancellor. The staff and students of the Royal Institute of Art were equally unanimous in their support for Marta Kuzma after last week’s hearing.

“We, the student group, are incredibly happy to unanimously present such an inspiring and visionary candidate for the position of Vice-Chancellor, and look forward to super-exciting years at Mejan together with Marta,” says Greta Weibull, student representative in the recruitment group and Johanna Nordin, student representative in the Student Union.

The Institute´s Board proposes that the Government appoints Marta Kuzma as Vice-Chancellor at the Royal Institute of Art for a term of six years, commencing summer 2014.

Marta Kuzma’s statement:

“I am very happy to have been proposed to lead Kungl. Konsthögskolan/the Royal Institute of Art as Vice-Chancellor in the years ahead. I believe that leading an art institution today must be creative in character, visionary in formulation, critical in structure and acumen, but more importantly generous in terms of community building wherein the Vice-Chancellor plays a pivotal role in catalyzing that community. This implies fostering a cooperative relationship with the institution as a whole – the students, the faculty, the teachers, the administration – in an effort to strengthen the school as a vigorous and self-conscious institution.”
